Hi there,

Sitting here at 5ish and looking out of my window it feels like winter really has come. It's extraordinary what effect it has on people and how much earlier in a day we become tired.

I don't know how many of you saw Jeremy Paxman's article on the selfishness of the Baby-Boomers - he is not the first journalist to write about this.  Although I agree with some of what was said I don't think we all had it that easy.  For many life was a struggle when they were young and getting on to a housing market was always easier for those who had parental help.  Without doubt it is harder now for many young people, especially as so many more go to University and have huge debts.

I think it's a myth to think that all Baby-Boomers will retire with good pensions and be able to live comfortably and easily in their latter years.  I work with many who are really scared about their future.  Many want to be able to help their children and find that they can't, as they don't have enough money for their old age. Many have lost savings and others, due to family circumstances such as divorce find themselves in a very difficult position.

On a happier note, I am delighted to be the resident Agony Aunt for Woman's Weekly, especially now during their centenary year, and have the opportunity to comment on Women's Weekly Agony Aunt concerns from over the last 100 years in their special Centenary edition.  Amazingly, Woman's Weekly is 100 years old and for 96 years they've had an Agony Aunt. What struck me was how most of the questions had similar themes to those I'm asked today.  There were a couple however, where the answers were quite shocking and showed how far we have come.  We, as Agony Aunts, are certainly on the whole a lot less judgmental and opinionated, and that is certainly a step in the right direction.

I hope you have a good November and we'll be in touch shortly with information on our new website for coaching, consultancy and training in organisations.

Best wishes

Keren
