| December News from Experience Matters | |
Dear All, Here we are at the end of 2011! It’s certainly true that time goes faster as you get older. The year seems to have flown by on one hand but at times events have seemed to be in slow motion. It’s been a really tough year for many and although the Age Discrimination Act is five years old, the 50 + are really struggling to find jobs. I know they’re not alone but our experience and knowledge isn’t acknowledged by so many. I’ve met lots of different people this year and I am even more convinced that our beliefs affect how we run our lives. Those that have been able to change and truly believe that they have something to offer have faired so much better. I’m not saying that circumstances don’t affect things, and I know people who have found things hard and who’ve tried everything. Experience Matters has had a good year. Most of which I’ve told you before. One recent event was the launching of our new sister ‘business’ site for coaching. Take a look - www.experience-matters.org.uk We’ve been delighted by the response and the interest businesses have shown in working with their older workers. I think the message that we need some different things has finally got through. And of course it has been Woman's Weekly centenary year! For 96 of those years they have had an Agony Aunt. I have also spoken on BBC Radio 4 'Woman’s Hour' this month about the relationship between siblings when a parent becomes ill, infirm and has dementia. The response was amazing. Woman’s Hour were surprised by both the number of tweets they had and the variety of comments. You can listen to this discussion here and the website We have updated the Style Page - 'A Winter Coat' - tips from our style coach Sue Donnelly. New dates for our workshops have been added. Take a look and do book in. I hope you all have good end to 2011 and an equally good start to 2012. I’m not one for New Year resolutions, I think they are too pressurised and therefore inevitably lead to failure. What I do advocate is reviewing the year that’s gone. Pick out 5 top events and reflect on why they worked, what were the ingredients and how can you use these again. Similarly highlight the most difficult event and again isolate the ingredients and look at what you would do in that situation again so it has a better outcome. Armed with this information 2102 has every possibility of being great. Have a good festive season and New Year Best wishes Keren www.experiencematters.org.uk www.experience-matters.org.uk www.kerensmedley.com |
