EXPERIENCE MATTERS

AUGUST 2009 NEWS!

Website Home

Dear All

I hope you are enjoying the summer, in spite of the weather being a bit mixed.  Having been promised a hot summer it always seems a bit disappointing when it doesn't happen!  I think this is so true in life if we fantasise and create a vision that doesn't occur we instantly feel bad.  If however the reality exceeds the vision we feel great.

We spent two very busy and interesting days at The Retirement Show in London last month.  One of the things that struck me when talking to people was how worried they were about their pension, money, jobs etc.  The recession has without doubt hit the 50, 60 and 70 year olds hard. Those that still work don't feel they will never be able to retire and others worry about how they will manage on ever decreasing savings.

For this reason we have moved the focus of our seminar 'Finding work, CVs, volunteering, entrepreneurship' on October 15th to offer an opportunity for you to explore your future. Will it be in work? part or full time? or in voluntary work? or setting up your own business?  And if  you want to apply for a post how do you do it in 2009? So many applications are now on-line and job descriptions and person specifications are so different to when we started working.  If any of these apply to you please come on October 15th become de-mystified and make good decisions for yourself.

The Retirement Age

We are going through interesting times.  The default retirement age is being discussed. The government have brought their review forward and my hunch is by 2010 there will be no retirement age. This will give us a lot of options and offer us new opportunities.  We are, as we have always been, the generation who will do things differently.

For those of you who are interested in history, retirement age first came in to force in Germany and in the UK in 1948, when the average age of life expectancy in both countries was 66 for men and 70 for women.  Now the life expectancy for a 65 year old man is 85.6 and a 65 year old woman is 88.1.
20% of 60 year olds and 30% of 50 year olds will live to 100.
A lot of years if you retired at the traditional age of 60 for women and 65 for men!

Workshops and seminars

Sometimes what blocks us working or even deciding what we want to do are other issues that are affecting us.  It may be our health and general well-being, or concern about our looks or anxiety about our relationships, feeling alone and wanting a partner, or trying to re-find the spark in our relationship as our children leave home.  We at Experience Matters are, as you know, all 50 + and we also have the same questions.

Are you living your life to the full?
Do you feel good about yourself?
Are you in the right job?
Are you confident both privately and in the workplace?

If you answer NO to one or more of these questions and want to answer YES! then you really deserve to give yourself a Life Makeover with one of the many workshops and seminars on offer this Autumn from Experience Matters (www.experiencematters.org.uk)
All held in central London

If you are 50+ and have worries concerning relationships, sex, your image and health, or are struggling to cope with the seemingly endless cycle of managing children, parents, families, being a grandparent, or divorce, then shake off those nagging feelings of self-doubt and insecurity and treat yourself to a day out that will help you to realise your dreams and equip you with the personal tools to achieve your goals.

We baby boomers were there in the Sixties 'not for us slippers and cocoa'

The one-day workshops address important issues that are all too frequently overlooked. The workshops are divided into key topics,  and guest experts and speakers will help you to regain confidence, make the most of your life, and to help you enjoy it to the full.
